    Lawns and Open Spaces

There are many lawns and open spaces featured around UNSW Kensington Campus, and are used for everything from BBQs to ball games to just lounging around in avoidance of study...

Maintenance

It is worthwhile to note that UNSW lawns are maintained by a large team of groundskeepers (in the form of UNSW Facilities Management Grounds), and are regularly returfed. Bore water is used for irrigation, much of which is automatic.

Rules

Unlike some other similar institutions, at UNSW all are welcome to walk, run or sit on all grassy areas around campus, unless otherwise signposted. Most often, this is done so when the grass is particularly susceptible to damage for the first one or two weeks after turf is laid (until the root systems bed in). Also, particular sections around the corners of pathways that become bare due to too much traffic can often be cordoned off. Please respect this signage, as your cooperation will keep the UNSW campus looking great!

Events and BBQs

If you'd like to hold a BBQ or other event on campus, arrangements can be made to book one of the many main lawns on campus through UNSW Facilities Managment. For booking information, see the UNSW FM Website. Also, BBQs are available for hire at extremely reasonable rates to student clubs through the Arc.

The following is a summary of the main lawns and open spaces on campus, their general location and Map grid reference. Each space has its own page, check them out for more details about some of these excellent chillaxing (cross between 'chill out' and 'relax') places!
