NEWS: 2008 Session text lists are now available at http://www.bookshop.unsw.edu.au/textlist.html
When you're at university, you'll almost always need to buy textbook for your courses. There are four main places to buy your books from:
The UNSW_Bookshop - stocks both course readers and text books of all subjects except for Maths and Medicine. It also sells general reading material.
The Second-Hand_Bookshop - stocks second-hand course material - be wary of issues and editions of texts, but in many courses a different version will not disadvantage you. Check with your course administrator or lecturer if you wish to buy a different edition of a text.
The Red_Centre - Maths text books and coursework material.
UNSW_Medsoc_Bookshop - Medical texts, located at Prince of Wales Hospital
Some courses will also sell or provide readers directly from their administration offices. Read your course outline material carefully for this information.
In addition to this, there is a difference between "set" or "required" material and "recommended" reading. Set or required reading is mandatory to courses: often lecturers will use this material to compliment their lectures or tutorials so it is imperative that you access this material. Often a copy will be provided in the myCourse_Reserve section of the Library. Recommended reading often expands upon topics within a course. These can be useful guides for finding starting material for specialised assignments.
Alternative ways to buy & sell used textbooks
The Second-Hand_Bookshop manages noticeboards on which you can advertise used textbooks for private sale. Just go to the Second-Hand Bookshop, fill out the notices, and they'll put them on the boards.
Alternatively there is http://www.textbookexchange.com.au - this is a website frequently used by many UNSW students to buy and sell second hand textbooks.
